All
Some of these may be very old hat to you, but I wanted to put in one page
that brought together some of the resources that are online for people
discussing development generally, and specifically development based on
technology.
Firstly, there is the Esther Dyson's group Bridges, which is at
www.bridges.org, whose stated mission is to to help people in developing
countries and underserved communities use technology to improve their lives.
There are links to Dotforce reports, commentaries and other interesting
material, all focused around the digital divide.
Next there is the Development Gateway, at www.developmentgateway.org, a site
sponsored by the World Bank to gather together a community on development
spanning a very broad range of issues. This is in some ways similar to what
we at Open Economies are trying to do, and may provide some interesting
lessons for us in the future.
The ELDIS gateway hosted at the Institute for Development at the University
of Sussex, UK, has an interesting page on Internet for Development at
http://www.ids.ac.uk/eldis/inter/ibrief.htm with briefing papers and links
to other reports.
An article on the Internet Society's role is worth a quick read for a very
upbeat interpretation of the possible impact of the Internet on developing
countries at http://www.isoc.org/oti/articles/1196/sadowsky.html.
Obviously, there is the Dotforce page at www.dotforce.org, but this is not a
very extensive site.
Please feel free to respond and add resources that you found valuable in
thinking about the issues that are raised by the Open Economies project.
Cheers
Finbarr Livesey
