As for local languages, programs and initiatives do exist in the United
Nations and other sources. Another possibility is to solicit translation
and interpretation assistance from current or former residents of the local
area who have training in the design and use of information and
communication technologies (ICTs) “and” expertise in the local language and
a common language of the Internet. The solicitation and giving of language
assistance could occur in an open source forum. It’s a way to give back to
one’s local area. Also, the creation of the sophisticated information
should incorporate languages and culture to make them more adaptable for end
users. See the example of the oral traditions and communications in Africa
referenced in an earlier discussion.
