My name is Rainer Hoell. I am a first year MPA student at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Short bio
I studied philosophy with a heavy focus on artificial intelligence and computational theory of mind.
During an internship at the Bertelsmann Foundation in Germany, I worked on the rising power of internet search engines and the effects on media democracy and child protection. We drafted a code of conduct for search engines in Germany and tried to implement it together with search engine companies. In another project, we developed a nationwide e-learning portal for German higher education teaching.
After my masters degree, I worked for in the science and research department of the [Robert Bosch Foundation]. I was responsible for the most comprehensive training program for science journalists in Germany. One of the tasks was to redesign its curriculum to integrate new phenomena like science blogs, open access and open data.
Parallel to my work and studies, I founded an NGO in Germany that for the first time provided a free social network web application for high schools to manage their alumni networks (Alumni at School).
And: I have been a fervent Slashdot reader for years!
