The amount and quality of information online services keep about its users is extraordinary. As such data's value grows, how will private actors and deal with users' control (or absence of) over it? Is disclosure of the information-gathering processes enough? Can private actors resolve the most pressing issues deriving from holding user-information with privately-run mechanisms? Or, on the other hand, should a push for mandatory due process mechanisms / standards be expected? What about stronger privacy and consumer protection laws?
