I blogged at [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google%2B Google Plus] (G+) from July 9, 2011 to November 5, 2018. When Google [https://www.blog.google/technology/safety-security/project-strobe/ announced] in October 2018 that it would terminate G+ for users like me, and delete all our posts, I began saving them to the [https://archive.org/ Internet Archive] (IA) and other locations. IA is also [https://www.reddit.com/r/plexodus/comments/az285j/saving_of_public_google_content_at_the_internet/ trying on its own] to capture all the public G+ posts from all G+ users. I hope to say more later on how these efforts turn out. Meantime, here my ''major'' G+ posts. I list them here with the original G+ URLs (which may die after April 2, 2019) and the newer, permanent IA URLs. —[[Peter_Suber|Peter Suber]].

I began saving my G+ posts to the [https://archive.org/ Internet Archive] (IA) and [https://conifer.rhizome.org/ Conifer] (then called WebRecorder). I saved a small fraction to the IA, and [https://conifer.rhizome.org/petersuber/peter-suber-g-blog-2011-2019 nearly all of them to Conifer].
* Most recent first.

FWIW, I made the IA copies in reverse chrono order, using the IA Chrome extension. All the ones above had HTTP URLs and all the ones below had HTTPS URLs. Looks like IA changed its practice while I was in the middle of this job. I tried changing some of the URLs above to HTTPS and they still worked. Hence, trusting that sample, I changed the rest of the URLs above to HTTPs. I haven't changed any of the URLs below. -->

Latest revision as of 20:30, 8 April 2021

I blogged at Google Plus (G+) from July 9, 2011 to November 5, 2018. In October 2018, Google announced that it would terminate G+ for users like me, and delete all our posts. I was not happy about it.

I began saving my G+ posts to the Internet Archive (IA) and Conifer (then called WebRecorder). I saved a small fraction to the IA, and nearly all of them to Conifer.

Here are some of my major G+ posts. I list them here with the original G+ URLs (even if they're mostly useless after April 2019) and the newer, permanent URLs for preservation copies at IA and Conifer. —Peter Suber.

Reasons not to pay APCs at hybrid journals, November 5, 2018. At G+. At IA. At Conifer.
