Join the Youth and Media (YaM) team! The Berkman Klein Center’s YaM project is looking for a new team member with fresh ideas, serious curiosity, passion, and creative drive who is ready to be part of a collaborative team and help us with a suite of design projects.

About Youth and Media: YaM is a diverse, passionate, collaborative, and fast-paced group that brings together young people, leading researchers, and developers from the Berkman Klein Center, and mentors from the Center’s broader network to engage creatively with the core challenges and opportunities the online world presents for youth (with a focus on 12-18-year-olds). About you: We are looking for someone who loves to create unique and inspiring visual designs; who understands how to tackle complex sets of questions/topics and translate them into visually appealing outputs; who uses verbal and written skills and graphic design to effectively communicate ideas; and who wants to contribute to having an impact by being the team’s visual storyteller.

The ideal addition to the team is highly creative and motivated to work on a variety of design, layout, communication, and digital media tasks that help convey YaM’s work to both target audiences, and the greater public. As a member of the team, you may help with some of the following tasks:

  • Develop clear and visually appealing designs and layouts for various YaM articles, reports, and other publications.

  • Assist in creating visually attractive and engaging learning and teaching materials.

  • Help illustrate website and social media content.

  • Support the design / visual representation of various YaM tools and platforms.

  • Generate new and creative ways to express and share the research, and other activities, undertaken by the YaM team.

This is also a great position for someone looking to familiarize themselves with the YaM and Berkman Klein Center communities, and apply their interest in Internet and society issues to hands-on, creative work.

Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Graphic design experience.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software, including InDesign, lllustrator, and Photoshop.

  • Understanding of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • An understanding of both traditional and social media is key.

  • Familiarity with Wordpress is helpful, but not required.

  • Strong verbal, written, and visual presentation skills.

Benefits/Other Information:

  • The time commitment would not exceed 17.25 hours a week.

  • Compensation is the standard Harvard RA rate of $11.50/hour.

  • No other benefits are provided.

  • In order to be hired for this position, you must reside in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor a visa for this position.

  • You do not need to be a student to apply for this position.

  • You do not need to be affiliated with Harvard University to apply for this position.

  • The ideal start date will be as soon as possible.
