ICANN's Obligations Under the DoC-ICANN Memorandum of Understanding
1. Design and test a plan
for competition in domain name registration services including consistent accreditation
requirements for registrars.
2. Develop procedures for
operation and management of the primary root server including the possible expansion
of the number of gTLDs (e.g. .web, .per, etc.).
3. Develop processes for
affected parties to participate in the formulation of policies and procedures
that address the technical management of the Internet.
4. Design and test appropriate
membership mechanisms that foster accountability to and representation of the
global and functional diversity of the Internet and its users.
5. Make recommendations regarding trademark policy, taking into account recommendations made by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
