And it's easy to blame the companies.

But there are distributed solutions.

We solved the problem of centralized networks with TCP/IP. We solved the
problem of proprietary publishing platforms with HTTP and HTML. We gave
everyone the power to syndicate personal publishing with RSS. We solved the
problem of proprietary email systems with SMTP and IMAP.

We're solving the problem of contracts of adhesion with standardized terms
individuals can proffer and ways to record agreements.

We're solving the problem of silo'd identities with self-sovereign identity,
which also has the potential to eliminate the cognitive impossibilities and
operational overhead of logins and passwords. Gartner has called this
category BYOI, or BYOID, for Bring Your Own. That will help.

With picos we can solve the problem of Things on the Internet trapped in
corporate silos.

There are eleven other projects on the ProjectVRM punch list:

What we're missing are money and coherence.
