What would be leading contenders to replace email? Just to make sure I got my lingo right, we're talking protocol, not apps, right?

To quote my colleague from the okTurtles Foundation, lead developer of  EmpressMail and Espionage, Greg Slepak:

"I am seriously starting to think that maybe the best thing to do with email might be to just get rid of it."


That about sums up my feelings on the matter, too.
