Thought this article would be interesting to those of you "flipping" the CRM model.  The comments are also quite interesting. Nothing new for you all, but salespeople think VRM could be a good idea.  :-)

A couple of quotes from the article:

Contemporary CRM and SFA software still reflects the old paradigm in which the salesperson initiates the action, and therefore it is flawed.

The problem here is huge. Modern social selling just doesn’t work on the CRM and SFA platforms that were built during an obsolete era when sellers controlled both information dissemination and the selling process

From comments:

However, with buyers in charge because of near perfect information on the web, the entire selling / buying model has flipped. So these systems need to be completely re-thought.

David - you just handed someone a million dollar business idea. I wonder if there will be any takers? Not only are we dealing with real time social data, we are also dealing with significantly more data than we used to. A "notes" field about when its a customer's birthday or the last time you called them is no longer sufficient. The ability to search and act on that data needs to be as dynamic as the incoming data stream is in the first place. I for one would love to see a good implementation of this concept.
