Keep your teeth clean, and your microdata in the cloud:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2134904849/kolibree-the-worlds-first-connected-electric-tooth
WHAT: "Our vision is to bring to market a new solution that completely
re–invents your dental hygiene routine by providing FEEDBACK, that empowers
you to take better care of yourself. Thanks to its sensors, the Kolibree
toothbrush can monitor brushing habits on smartphones and, similar to the
wiimote, the mobile app allows you to interact with games which is
particularly motivating for kids !"
APIs: "With Kolibree, DEVELOPERS can become part of the adventure by
creating applications that analyze the data transferred via Bluetooth to make
brushing time both fun and more compelling . We believe that when people are
better informed, they are empowered to make decisions which optimize and
improve behavior day after day for their dental well-being and overall health.
We're here on Kickstarter to raise money to build development kits and launch
production tooling. The funds will go towards development and distribution
costs so we can get the toothbrush into the hands of developers and consumers
more cost efficiently and faster than traditional methods."
But WHO OWNS YOUR DATA? You do (per the Kickstarter).
But WHAT DO THEY COLLECT? Information from LinkedIn, for starters:
"Information From Third Parties: We collect Personal Information and other
information about or related to you from LinkedIn and potentially other third
parties when you connect, sign-up or register on or with the Site or other
Services. In such cases, you allow Company to access and obtain Personal
Information and other LinkedIn Information about you from LinkedIn (including
from your LinkedIn profile information) and such other third parties. The
LinkedIn Information you allow Company to access and collect is affected by
the privacy settings you establish with LinkedIn or such other third parties
(and you can control and find out more about these settings by visiting
LinkedIn.com). The LinkedIn Information is subject to certain terms and
conditions which restrict and proscribe our use, disclosure and protection of
your LinkedIn Information in accordance with the applicable policies on
LinkedIn.com (or the websites of such other third parties, if applicable."
Along with all the data from the toothbrush, your phone, anywhere else they
can match you, and anytime you access them from anywhere.
BUT YOU DON'T OWN YOUR DATA, PER THE PRIVACY POLICY:
How is it used? "To analyze, compile, publish, sell and otherwise similarly
utilize information (other than Personal Information) relating to usage and
users of the Services. For advertising, marketing and promotional purposes.
To provide personalized experiences and recommendations, language and
location customization, personalized help and instructions, or other
responses to your usage of our Services. "
In other words, they are doing what everyone is doing: saying they aren't
sharing your data.. but they are, through aggregated means they hope won't
track back to you, but likely could. Or for sale.. or ads, or whatever they
want.
EDIT OR DELETE YOUR DATA: Also.. they have no mechanism to allow you to edit,
correct or delete your data. They may, through personal request, make some
effort to remove your data.
If I OWNED my data, I'd be able to delete it, etc.
LIVE IN THE EU: you consent to have your data in the US under US terms.
UNDER 11y old?: your not allowed (and how do they enforce that.. given it
will be on the bathroom counter?
