Graham, Very well stated. I also spend a lot of time explaining VRM and experience the same frustration. And this is the case even with people who are otherwise informed and well read. So I end up comparing it to CRM which everyone knows, but that analogy doesn’t seem to get them excited. So I refer them to Doc’s WSJ article or send them the attached document ‘VRM Primer for Time Starved Investors’ which help but require an investment of time on their part and a follow up on my part. If I recall, in a recent post Doc has suggested intentcasting which is a definite improvement but that too may not be ‘job-to-be-done that no normal person is interested in doing’ (at least, not yet). But, your point is that we need a descriptor that grabs people immediately and experience indicates that VRM does not meet that purpose. Given that the term VRM originated at the nascent stage of this movement when arousing the public’s interest may not have been as important as it is now, it may be time to consider a replacement and PIDM is a worthy candidate.
