Okay, but the end-state should be one in which it would be as absurd to be "given a choice" in how information is used as it would to be "given a choice" about how we speak.

Doc, that line of your commentary stood out so strongly to me that I just wanted to give it a virtual high-five. Just as "freedom of speech", under the U.S. Constitution, is the baseline for free _expression_, "my personal data will not be used without my permission" should be the baseline for the personal data ecosystem.
