Joyce,

As Mastodon is open source, it is possible for someone to make an addition to the code to put in Tweets.  If projectVRM decided to set up its own Mastodon server then people who were @projectvrm.org (if the group decided to set up a server on projectvrm.org or maybe projectvrm.me) then it could be added to the projectvrm server.  The code could be donated to the open source community who could decide if they wished to put it into the standard. Alternatively, ProjectVRM could keep the code under its control and sell the functionality, not the source code, to other Mastodon servers.  I believe this is the way WordPress add-ons work - but I could be mistaken.

Projectvrm (or someone else) could decide to make a mobile interface and start it with their own group and later sell it to any group that wants to use it.

The project could be funded with Crowd Sourced Loans much like Kickstarter but where you buy mobile interfaces or Twitter feeds at a discount and the group operating the add-ons pay you full price when you want your money back, and they have sales.

When I get ACT Water Rewards Coop or Affordable Housing Loans operating others will be able to take open source code we will produce for those products and use it to finance Mastodon addons.

This might also answer Steven Groves questions about how to monetize.  You monetize by selling additional functionality, and you ask your end users to finance the addons.  The interests of those who make money from the add-ons are to support the Mastodon code and so they will provide funds to keep the code up-to-date.

I expect integrating Tweets, and mobile interfaces might be attractive propositions for any of the VRM developers particularly if the finance comes from future customers, not from shareholders.

Kevin

Is there a tool that will automatically post anything that one posts on twitter, also on mastodon?
It seems that would help populate it. No?

Okay, I am now following all who listed their Mastodon handles here so far, plus other familiars who have followed me already. We’ll see how it goes.
