This is why we can't have nice things.

Why get basic privacy mixed up with
still-controversial government programs? FWIW,
a lot of US citizens believe that the original New
Deal prolonged the Great Depression. And a lot of
those citizens are left-wing privacy nerds' natural
allies, the right-wing privacy nerds.

There's already a natural beef between 2nd Amendment
proponents and the surveillance marketing industry
because many ad networks won't carry firearms-related
ads. Let's not stick a big LIBERALS ONLY sign on
the Internet privacy movement. (We'll need the 2nd
Amendment people soon enough, when the mandatory
DRM for 3D printers bill comes along, but that's
another story.)
