Fun trick: walk into a quiet room full of geeks, and say, "okay, Google".

I strongly agree with this. I'd actually happily go back to a world where we had to plug the microphone into a jack. Another part of ownership is controlling what kinds of input you provide; I strongly dislike the new trend for apps to oversample your context.

So I generally buy computers when they're cheap on WOOT, but: I will
pay a premium if my next computer (and maybe even my phone) has a
physical disconnect switch for the microphone. I already do the
Post-It note over the camera thing, but audio is harder...
