While http://wlpc.com.au does not explicitly promote privacy as one of its benefits, Snowden has added to its appeal because it helps organisations justify keeping data private by giving individuals access to their own information held by the organisation. This means an organisation has an economic incentive to keep data it knows about a person hidden from anyone else other than the person because that makes the data "scarce" and hence more valuable.

Personal Clouds makes it easier for organisations to satisfy court authorised requests for access to the data about a particular individual without revealing any other customer's information.  It also means that individuals being investigated, in most cases, should know about the investigation.

In summary a personal cloud makes it easier to get court ordered information about a particular person without impinging on the rights of others.

A publication has asked me to give them a list of privacy improvements, post-Snowden. On the list so far:

cryptocat improvements
arkOS
TextSecure being integrated into Cyanogenmod
SecureDrop
Tor updates

I'd like to give them VRM (especially personal cloud) items.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Doc
