What is .FIN for ?
-
To make available to the
financial community a new top level domain exclusively dedicated to the
-
corporations and
-
professionals operating in
the finance sector
-
To target the financial community
at large
-
banks
-
insurance companies etc.
-
To allow better categorization,
which is an essential need for the future of the DNS
-
Being a restricted name domain,
to introduce more security than .com for
-
customers and
-
operators of the financial
sector
AMB’s role . . .
-
as a small banking association
it took the initiative to act within the time frame of the application
process
-
it responded ICANN’s invitation
to submit an application even though the ultimate sponsoring organization
“has not yet been formed” (in the words of the application form)
-
it submitted a plan to form
the sponsoring organization
-
it found difficulties to
give accurate and thorough answers without limiting the necessary range
of choices which the future organization will consider
A suggestion
-
for this application and
others that are similarly situated
-
for a period of time ending
at the end of June 2001
extension of the application
process
In the interests of fairness
to those applicants who have invested substantial time and efforts, we
further believe that an extension of the application process is more fair
than a completely new application process.
For .FIN TLD, this period of
time would be used
-
to allow the creation of
a group of internationally recognized associations in the financial sector
to participate in the process of foundation of the Sponsoring Organization
-
to approach especially those
entities that filed objections to this application
-
to demonstrate that our initiative
was not intended to exclude anybody from participation, but rather to insure
that all legitimate representatives of the global financial sector are
fairly represented
-
to enable the representatives
of the financial sector to develop specific qualifications and standards
for the .FIN TLD
