The Idea

Private Citizens (formerly known as Web Citizenship) is an online privacy watchdog and pressure group that will:

- Collect privacy policies, compare privacy policies to identify similar language, and detect updates to policies.

- Make it easy for attorneys, scholars, and law students to translate policies into plain English and explain changes in policies.

- Provide best practices for privacy policies.

- Identify bad practices, such as when you need to click through several pages to get to a privacy policy or when, like with FB and G+, you cannot click on the privacy link because the new feed reloads.

- Maintain privacy profiles to incentivize businesses to comply with best practices and explain their privacy changes.

We will use changedetection.com to monitor privacy policies for changes and work with Herdict to allow people to identify when privacy policies are not easily accessible.
