VoJo

Vojo.co is a hosted mobile blogging platform that makes it easy for people to send stories to the web from inexpensive mobile phones via voice calls, SMS, and MMS. Our goal is to provide a platform that enables people in low-income communities, or in situations where data plans are not widely accessible, to participate in the digital public sphere. You don't need a smart phone or an app to post blog entries or digital stories to Vojo - any phone will do. You don't even need internet access: Vojo lets you create an account via sms and start posting right away.

In addition to content posting via voice, sms, and MMS, and sms registration, features include tags, geocoding, maps, MMS filters, groups, and group messaging. It's easy to set up your Vojo Group, and you can use it any way you'd like: for your organization, for shared topics, for event coverage, to post stories about local heroes, to document public health campaigns, anything. Groups admins can also send sms and multimedia content out to registered users' mobile phones.

Projects:

• Vojo is powered by the VozMob Drupal Distribution, which has been developed through an ongoing collaborative design process by day laborers, household workers, students, and a diverse team from the Institute of Popular Education of Southern California (IDEPSCA).

• EnvayaSMS secure: an encryption / anonymization extension for this FOSS sms/mms gateway that runs on a Droid. Can be used to quickly and easily set up a gateway for people to post sms and mms to web, in times & places where there's no gateway, no cheap gateway, etc.

• VoxBox: Make a jquery based drag and drop UI for creating Interactive Voice Menus. User can either upload prerecorded clips, record new ones in the browser. Features: Audio in: (Record Audio, Upload Audio, Paste URL to audio, Put a text for system to read). Audio place: point and click to drag audio clips onto different points in the IVR path.

• VidPad/ethervid: Extend etherpad to support open video? embed, in/out, simple timeline.

• VoJo.co: a hosted version of the VozMob Drupal Distribution. VoJo makes it easy to post content to the web from cheap phones via voice call, sms, or mms. Create groups, post stories to maps, add tags; group owners can also send sms and mms to groups.
