The EPA Concluded W.R. Grace Was a Source of the Contamination

After Wells G and H were shut down, the EPA designated the area around and including the wells a Superfund site and placed the area on the National Priority List for federal clean-up funding. The EPA then commenced an investigation into the source of the contamination of the site. The agency concluded that the groundwater had been contaminated at five properties, including that of W.R. Grace, with a variety of VOCs. The EPA identified four plumes of groundwater contamination. One, the northeastern plume, emanated from the Grace property. The contamination in that plume consisted primarily of TCE and trans-1,2-dichloroethene.

This recent EPA evidence conclusively establishes that TCE dumped by W.R. Grace contaminated the groundwater, and reached Wells G and H from which it was consumed by the Woburn community.
