DEFENDANT:

Half of the Leukemia Patients in Woburn Were Not Served by Wells G and H

The plaintiffs fail to mention that half of the leukemia victims in the town of Woburn lived in parts of town NOT served by Wells G and H. The plaintiffs argue that the "common factor" in the leukemia patients was the well water, and therefore the water caused the leukemia. However, this argument ignores the other half of the leukemia victims in the town. It is equally plausible that whatever caused the leukemia among the Woburn residents not served by Wells G and H also caused the plaintiffs' leukemia.

The map below illustrates the distribution of childhood leukemia in Woburn from 1964 to 1986. Only the cluster of leukemia victims in the bottom-righthand corner of the map were served by Wells G and H.
