Note on Switch
vs. Router
Switch
A switch is a device that filters and forwards
packets between different networks, or different segments of a local
area network. Switches examine each data packet as it is received, determines
the source and destination device of that packet, and forwards it appropriately.
Router
A router is a more sophisticated piece
of network hardware, compared to a switch. It connects networks together
and is capable of filtering or blocking packets at the boundary of the
network.
