How to Participate in the Class
CyberOne revolves around lectures at Harvard Law School, and scheduled meetings on Berkman Island in Second Life.
Video recordings of the lectures are available through the Weeks_Pages section, or on the CyberOne feed through the Democracy Player.
For those participants who lack sufficient bandwidth, or live in a timezone that makes SecondLife participation awkward there is now an Internet Relay Chat channel #cyberone on OFTC.net. See IRC for a discussion of Relay Chat and an introduction to its use.

CyberOne Logo Design Challenge
Right now this Wiki looks like the right-out-of-the-box MediaWiki installation. We need our own course logo. Let's design a good one that can replace the standard one in the upper left corner. It would be nice to put it on T-shirts in real life and Second Life as well. If you have one to propose or some ideas about how one should look, put them here.

The Futures of Entertainment Conference: Nov 17-18
The Comparative Media Studies Program is proud to announce an exciting forthcoming conference, The Futures of Entertainment, to be held at MIT on Nov. 17 and 18. The event is designed to bring together leading thinkers from across the entertainment industry to speak about core issues around media convergence, transmedia storytelling, user-generated content, and participatory culture. Speakers confirmed so far include The Long Tail's Chris Anderson, Flickr's Caterina Fake, DC Comic's Paul Levitz, Warner Brother's Diane Nelson, Big Spaceship's Michael Lebowitz, social networking researcher danah boyd, television scholar Jason Mittell, and many others, including representatives from MTV, Cartoon Network, Bioware, and other leading companies in this space. The event is free and open to the public but we ask that you preregister since seating will be limited. The event is being hosted by the Convergence Culture Consortium.
At-Large Participants' Discussion (Next Meeting in SL 10/12 at 9 EST)
For our next meeting, same place as this past week same time, the at-large discussion might want to center around some structure: What are we looking for, how are we going to find it? The participants in the last discussion expressed interest in two main directions: 1) discussions of the class readings (we think they are fascinating!); and 2) discussion of how to use these new technologies in our teaching. Most of the at-large participants in attendance are profs or university employees in various contexts (a very curious phenomenon). Can these resources better connect us to our students? Are they especially useful in achieving a university's mission (education, personal devlopment, creation of innovative ideas)?
So let's meet next time with ideas on these two topics. Of course, we can always meet at other time to discuss new topics as well!
