Frequently Asked Questions about Special Invitations

Q:  How many special invitations will be awarded?

A:  More than 10 and fewer than 100. We have not yet determined the precise number of invitations we will be able to offer.

Q:  What is the selection process?

A:  The Chair will extend invitations to those who can most contribute to and benefit from the Conference. Written applications should touch on both of these issues.

Q:  I know special invitations do not waive hotel and travel costs. Can recipients of this invitation still reserve hotel rooms and airfare at the reduced rates reserved for Conference attendees?

A:  Yes, you may reserve a room at a reduced rate at any of the four hotels listed on the "Registration Information" page on this site. Blocks of rooms will be reserved for Conference participants until Friday, April 24, 1998. Space is limited. Special reduced rates on American Airlines and other airlines are available for travel to the Conference through the Harvard Travel Center, the official travel agent for the Conference. See the "Getting there" page on this site for more information on flights. Please do not make arrangements until you receive a registration confirmation.

Q:  Should the one-page statement be single or double-spaced?

A:  By one page, we mean approximately 250 words - either single or double spaced.

Q:  I'm a student who is studying public interest issues, but I'm not affiliated with an organization. Am I eligible for a special invitation?

A:  Sorry, special invitations will only be extended to representatives from public interest organizations. You might want to ask your school if it can sponsor some of the cost for you to attend.

Q:  Is there a special program for Harvard students or staff?

A:  Yes, members of the Harvard community will be able to enter a lottery to win seats at the conference at a very reduced rate. Watch for more information in the beginning of March.

Q:  Are government workers eligible to apply for special invitations?

A:  Yes, representatives from government agencies are eligible to apply.

Q:  I work for a public interest organization and I want to guarentee a place for myself at the conference. Is there a reduced rate I can pay?

A:  Sorry, we are not offering reduced rates.
