NOTE: I take realtime notes in evernote (available here) and try to update this page daily. (I periodically synchronize them with the Diagnostic Kit pages on this wiki)

I am still refining my literature organizational system, but basically it involves 3 steps:

  • search (find literature from google, existing references, etc; get fulltext)
  • triage (select signal from noise; skim pdfs in extended collection for useful/relevant papers)
  • review (annotate & highlight selected papers and incorporate into the Diagnostic Kits Bibliography

In particular, I am still looking for the perfect solution for organizing the triage step. I've tried:

I like using papers the most overall, I like how effortless grabbing citations is with Zotero, and I like how Mendeley can synchronize PDFs between multiple computers and collaborators. Other Notes:

  • I'm afraid we're making future work for ourselves by not being mindful of collecting metadata when we list a citation in our wiki bibliographies, which are currently plaintext. I have a vision of us finishing the project and generating a SIMILE citeline eventually. Alas.
  • Zotero can convert references into the mediawiki citation format by drag and drop, but the family of cite templates must be installed in mediawiki; see my notes on how to install the cite templates.
