so it seems that the senate has actually gone ahead and passed this
bill... i for one am relieved that they are outlawing 'bad faith
intent to profit' ... i'll be going long on prison stock futures when they
start enforcing that principle...
CNET News.com - Senate aims to outlaw cybersquatting
"It is important that we distinguish between the legitimate and illegitimate
use of domain names,"
Leahy said in a statement on the bill. "Bad-faith intent to profit is required
for a violation to occur."
but seriously folks... who are these people anyway? (in the senate) who would decide (globally?) about the legitimate and the illegitimate uses of 'domain names'... and create a de facto global law ...
the same people who in australia have given us this along the same lines:
Broadcasting Services Amendment (Online Services) Bill 1999 - Legislation (as passed by the Senate)
and we must recall the WIPO wipeout:
which attempts to tell us that a global, and in the latest ICANN(T) (non) 'Working groups' mandatory (global) UNIFORM DISPUTE-RESOLUTION POLICY is the way for
3. RESOLVING CONFLICTS IN A MULTIJURISDICTIONAL WORLD
WITH A GLOBAL MEDIUM:
and then there's the UCITA disaster (and notice the big surprise about who likes the UCITA):
Licensing
time bomb (InfoWorld)
does anyone notice a trend here?
what a wonderful world our lawyers and states our building for us...
