You draw too fine a line between "opening" and
"running".  For most people they end up being
the same thing.

First rule: never double-click on something that
was sent to you.  It might not actually be they
type of document it pretends to be -- that is,
it might appear to be a .jpg image and really
be a .wsh script, etc.  Always save attachments
to disk, open an application that can handle
the type of document it claims to be, then 
use that application to open the document.

First & foremost, though: scan, scan, scan!
