[dvd-discuss] The long term...was Slightly OT - Japanese copyrights

I'm beginning to think that in some ways copyright has come full
circle. Orignally, there was a great need to disseminate knowledge,
administration was difficult and costs were high. So the bargain was
set. Later, nonrecurring costs where still high but recurring were
not but not enough that they were insignficant, dissemination became
widespread and administration stayed the same. Today, costs can be
nearly nothing, dissemination is widespread, administration is
horrendous. Maybe .002 is right. The bargain has been fulfilled. The
devils price for the monopoly has been paid and is no longer needed
to the extent that it was 100yrs ago. Copyright terms must be reduced
bacause the protections are no longer needed but dissemination is
needed again.
