Guangdong, China -- PTA Deploys 4,000 Lines Utilizing Paradyne's Hotwire DSL Products

LOS ANGELES -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- March 11, 1998 -- Paradyne, a pioneer and leader in digital network access, announced that the Guangdong PTA has awarded a multi-million dollar contract to Paradyne and is currently deploying high-speed Internet and video services via its Hotwire Rate Adaptive DSL (RADSL) products. Deployment continues through 1998 and will reach approximately 4,000 lines. This deployment represents the largest ADSL to date in China. Guangdong PTA, is the Post and Telecommunications Administration for China's southern province of Guangdong, representing one of the largest telecommunication's markets in China. According to Reuters , Internet use is exploding among China's 1.2 billion population. Last year, there were 600,000 subscribers, up from 100,000 in 1996. The number of subscribers is officially predicted to reach seven million by 2001.

"After rigorous testing and selection among several leading ADSL vendors, the Guangdong PTA chose Paradyne's Hotwire RADSL solutions for SUPER GNET, one of the largest broadband networks in China backboned by ATMs," said Mr. Yongjun Huang, the project manager in charge of the Network Access of Broadband Service Division at Guangdong PTA. "To date, this is the largest ADSL application in China. We're pleased this project is going smoothly and the test results from several sites are satisfactory."
