Excited to participate in the seminar this year and thank you Berkman for the invitation.

A short bio -

I left Chicago in the 90s to travel west for law school (when my belongings fit in my car, basketball in the front seat) after reading an INC magazine article regarding in-house internet lawyers grappling with thorny legal issues. Now, a decade later, I've connected the dots with my new position (started May 2011) as the Legal Director of copyright at Yahoo!. In that role I serve as the global copyright expert at Yahoo!; working with the product teams on novel copyright issues, working on global policy issues that impact copyright law, and fielding transactional matters and media related issues.

Prior to joining Yahoo!, I worked at Jones Day on a variety of IP litigation matters (Hatch-Waxman ANDA cases and others) and counseled clients in securing their intellectual property rights as well as on matters involving intellectual property issues that arise in the context of general corporate transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions. Before Jones Day, I served for a brief time period as an entertainment lawyer working on TV programming agreements, sports event matters (served as outside counsel for The Tennis Channel), and film issues. I've continued that part of my practice by advising clients on documentary films for almost a decade working on matters for the Prince of Wales and Grameen. [Incidentally, I married a documentary filmmaker]

I graduated law school from Pepperdine University in 2002; a place far away from the east coats deciduous trees. That summer I took off for Sweden as a Fulbright Scholar where I was enrolled in the information technology and the law master's program at Stockholm University and an EU IP LLM program. While in Sweden, I also participated with the Max Planck Institute in preparing a draft of the Hague Convention on jurisdiction and recognition of judgments in intellectual property matters.
