The Berkman Center is pleased to announce that the Media Cloud Dashboard is open for public use. We invite you to experiment with the tool at http://www.mediacloud.org.

The Media Cloud Dashboard tool generates weekly word clouds of mainstream and new media news content. More broadly, Media Cloud is an open source, open data platform that allows researchers to answer quantitative questions about the content of online media. Using Media Cloud, researchers, journalism critics and interested citizens can examine what media sources cover which stories, what language different media outlets use in conjunction with different stories, and how stories spread from one media outlet to another. Visit the Media Cloud site for more information, including an overview of methods.

Ethan Zuckerman provides a terrific explanation of the Media Cloud project and invites you to make use it: Media Cloud, relaunched.

Media Cloud's current stage of development is a product of much hard work by the project team, notably David Larochelle, Hal Roberts, Ethan, and designer Zoe Fraade-Blanar. Congratulations, team, on this milestone!

In the coming months, the project and its collaborators from around the Berkman Center will be periodically releasing analytical reports based on Media Cloud data. Stay tuned for those pieces.

And, as always, we welcome your feedback.
