How often do we think about the question: "Should I leave a tip? And if so, how much?". Let's try to understand this issue, at least in order not to get into an awkward situation. Learn more about barber tip calculator.

In Ukraine, tipping has fully become the norm only in large restaurants. Leaving a tip of 8-10% of the order amount you will not lose. In most cases, tips are not included in the bill. Although what concerns banquet service, there may be exceptions. In bistros and small cafes, tipping is not at all accepted, except for resort establishments. Regarding the encouragement of maids and taxi drivers, in this case it all depends on your desire and capabilities. We do not accept tipping in SPA and beauty salons, but if you have a desire to thank the staff for some specific services or just for high-class service, no one will be against it. In addition, you can give small gifts. At the same time, the price of the gift should not exceed the cost of the services provided.

Unwritten international standards for tips hover around 10% of the order amount or the cost of the service provided. However, this standard varies from country to country. In the West, it is customary to leave a tip for almost all service personnel, from the waiter to the massage therapist in the SPA salon. At the same time, the cost of tips is quite paid off.

So the maid, whom reasonable guests leave a certain amount on the table every day (on average 1-2 euros), will clean the room with redoubled zeal.

If it comes to SPA-salons or beauty salons, then you can leave the money at the reception desk (which you shouldn’t forget about either), but it’s better to hand it over to the specialists personally, because the tip amounts will be different, it all depends on the cost of the provided services to you. In no case is it customary to tip the owner of the establishment, a promise to come back is enough.

It is also considered correct to tip for the delivery of groceries and ready meals from a restaurant. Here the amount will be the same as what you would pay at the institution.

Whether to tip at a gas station is a matter of your good will. Well, in principle, 5-7% of the amount spent, employees are quite satisfied.

Americans have the biggest tips, it is considered good practice to tip an amount of 20-25% of the order value. In the US, there is an unspoken rule: the larger and more expensive the institution, the more you need to leave a tip. So in a small eatery, 10% of the order value will be enough, in a small restaurant 15%, and in an expensive establishment to give a tip of less than 20-25%, it will be blatant ignorance. These requirements are even recorded in a special memorandum of the US National Restaurant Association. Formally, it is not necessary to fulfill them, but leaving a waiter without a tip is almost the same as publicly slapping him and expressing not just dissatisfaction with the quality of service, but real indignation.

In Europe, things are a little different. The most expensive, in this respect, is France. In most cafes and restaurants, pourboir (that's what the French call a tip) is included in the bill. It is, on average, 15-16% of the order amount. In addition, it is customary to leave an additional 1-1.5 euros there. In Cannes, in response to a small tip, the waiter may be offended and directly ask for more. If you plan to visit this institution in the future, it is better to pay extra.

In Tunisia and Egypt, you can leave nothing at all if you are able to withstand the mournful expression of Arab eyes in anticipation of baksheesh. In the end, few succeed, so tourists still leave about 5-10% as a tip.

Summarizing the information, we can say with confidence that each country has its own rules and principles regarding the size of the tip. Whether you follow them or not is your choice. But you need to know about them if you do not want to spoil or, at least, overshadow your vacation. So let's not forget that tipping is a tradition. Giving them when they are deserved is a position. A position dictated by a good tone.
