The purpose of this workshop is to frame a research agenda for a year-long critical analysis of the citizen media landscape. We’ve listed questions in the agenda below, but the hope is that you will help us decide if these are the right questions to ask/answer and determine how to go about answering them.

11-12:30pm Models: What are the current and emerging forms of citizen media? Are they sustainable? Are there business models to support these forms?


12:30-1:00pm Lunch


1:00-2:30pm Audiences: Who’s participating? How does this participation vary across cultures, nations and generations? How are audiences engaging with and using citizen media? Is citizen journalism having an impact on galvanizing communities behind causes, or does it only become relevant once it’s picked up by traditional media?


2:30-3:00pm Coffee Break


3:00-4:30pm Ecosystem: How does citizen media influence the narrative around certain news stories? How and why do stories get translated from citizen media to traditional media? What are particular examples we could examine as case studies?


4:30-5:00pm Wrap Up/Conclusions/Moving Forward
