he's not the only one. Big Brother (in 1984) is also a TV screen (plus
hidden camera), at least in the movie (it's been about 15 years since
I read the book, can't remember). I still remember one scene, where
the hero is interrogated, and the officer switches the screen off. and
the hero says "you can turn it off?".
those screens didn't have mute buttons, either. you could turn the
volume down, but never really off.
