[dvd-discuss] apeals court ruling

Having done a quick ruling of the decision, it seems that
they buy completely into the "functional" argument. This means
that in less than 50 years no speech will be safe since machines
will be able to recognize and take nearly any sort of action
based on spoken commands.

I also believe that if you accept their argument, you can do
a reducto absurdum that concludes a law banning the teaching
of reading and writing does not in any way infringe freedom
of speech (at least not in a constitutionally troubling way).
The "functional" nature of teaching and learning would be the
target, not the speech itself.

It's all so depressing.
