[dvd-discuss] Clear Channel plays it safe : Bill Gates can't force me to do a damn thing

Had to capitalize on this one Bryan..

Someone Said:

>> You and I have very different views at to what constitutes "power" as
 used
>> in the famous quote. Bill Gates has a lot more power than you or
>> I do, it's sad that you can't see that.

You Said :

>I think you confuse power with success. Bill Gates >cannot force me to
do a damn
>thing.

Actually, yes he can.. Go check out a recent article put out in slashdot
talking about Frontpage 2k2's EULA. Amazingly enough, M$ has gone in
and outlawed the use of its product to create webpages that would talk
smack about M$, would disseminate hate, pornography or racism, or
otherwise tee the big guy off. To quote (from Slashdot, quoting the
EULA, Idon't have FP 2k2)

" Under Section #1, Grant of License, the second paragraph headed
"Restrictions" states in part: "You may not use the Software in
connection with any site that disparages Microsoft, MSN, MSNBC, Expedia,
or their products or services, infringe any intellectual property or
other rights of these parties, violate any state, federal or
international law, or promote racism, hatred or pornography."

So it looks pretty darn obvious that indeed Bill Gates (or at least his
legal department) can force you what you can or cannot do (sans the
constitution no less) when it comes to their products. While he can't
hold a gun to your head, the power of a lawsuit is usually enough for
most people to fold.
