German President Steinmeier discusses digital technology ethics at BKC event

The President of Germany, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, joined the Berkman Klein Center for a special event to discuss the Ethics of the Digital Transformation. Steinmeier began his talk with a question that he said is key to his presidency and to the future of liberal democracy: How do social media and the internet, particularly Twitter and Facebook, change the democratic culture of debate? 

President Steinmeier was joined in conversation by Professors Jeanette Hofmann of the Free University of Berlin; Matthew Liao of New York University; Melissa Nobles of MIT; Wolfgang Schulz of the University of Hamburg; Eva Weber-Guskar of the Humboldt University of Berlin; and Crystal S. Yang of Harvard Law School. BKC executive director Urs Gasser hosted and moderated the panel.
