BKC Meet the Author Series: Urs Gasser in conversation with Jason Farman

"The Art of Waiting in an Instant World"

Berkman Klein Center Executive Director Urs Gasser and Jason Farman come together for an in-depth conversation about big topics and issues from his book, Delayed Response: The Art of Waiting from the Ancient to the Instant World.

It has always been understood that waiting is an in-between time; but what if waiting is the very thing that has been shaping us throughout history? This talk, drawn from the recent book, Delayed Response: The Art of Waiting from the Ancient to the Instant World, focuses on how our communication media shift our experiences of time and delay. These media shape not only how we understand human intimacy and connection, but also how we learn and build knowledge about our world and the universe. Connecting our current mobile media context to technologies of the past, Farman discusses how waiting is an important analytic to understand culture, power, intimacy, and notions of productivity in the digital age.

"Delayed Response" in under 90 seconds

Jason Farman talks about the experiences of waiting and delay as a critical part of the process of learning and creating.
